Germany grants preliminary approval for Tesla Gigafactory expansion
According to the German press, the Brandenburg State Environmental Agency has given Tesla preliminary approval for some expansion works at the existing facility. This means that while Tesla does not yet have official construction permits, it can begin work “at its own risk.” The approved plans include creating a logistics area for new vehicles, constructing underground lines, and installing solar panels on the roof. With the solar panels, Tesla will be both environmentally friendly and reduce energy costs.
According to German media outlet Stern, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has also expressed his support for the Tesla Gigafactory expansion. However, Tesla will need more permits to complete all the planned work. The process is not entirely finished, and Tesla may face additional obstacles. Environmental groups, in particular, are concerned that the factory’s expansion could endanger local water resources.
In the past, environmental groups have sabotaged Tesla’s power lines, causing the factory to halt operations for several days. It seems these groups are willing to try anything to protect nature.
According to Tesla, the Gigafactory adventure in Germany is just the beginning. Elon Musk and his team are taking significant steps to strengthen their presence in Europe. With the expansion of the Gigafactory, Tesla will secure its position in the European electric vehicle market.
